Last weekend I went on a well deserved weekend with Hannes to Aachen and Maastricht. Since Aachen was all about getting zen at our wellness and the city isn’t that big (do try this sushi place though and the glutenfree bagels over here!), I wanted to show you my favorite places of Maastricht ’cause this city surprised me big time!
We stayed at the Trash Deluxe hotel and I absolutely loved this hotel! It’s a very small boutique hotel with 8 rooms and we stayed at the ‘Stone’ room. Because the hotel is managed individual, you get a very personal welcome. Also love their catchphrase: If we can we will, just ask! For the interior they worked together with artist Maurice Frissen who made several art objects out of Trash. For example, our room had a very cool lamp made of used teabags. (more info here)
For lunch, we went to De Brandweerkantine (The fire station). It’s all in the name ’cause yep, this was a fire station before they turned it in this cool hotspot. At this place are also studio’s and workspaces at the first floor and at the ‘centrale’ there are several event spaces that are used for lectures, workshops, movie nights… Besides lunch, you can also get breakfast here or have dinner. (more info here)
One of my favorite restaurants are tapas places! So at night we went to La Bodega. It’s a traditional Spanish bar. It’s a little noisy and very crowded (that’s what you get when they serve delicious food), so when you didn’t make a reservation, prepare for +- 40 minutes waiting time at busy evenings. But it was worth it! Definitely try the fried eggplants with honey. SO. GOOD. (more info here)
Sunday Brunchday! On Sunday we went to Harry’s, the best brunch place in Maastricht. Blueberry pancakes, fresh fruits, granola, oatmeal with cinnamon, apple and walnuts (I had this and it was so good!), eggs benedict, … They have it all. And you’re gonna want to eat it all, I didn’t eat for the rest of the day ’cause I was so full. But oh so worth the visit. (more info here)
Bookshop Dominicanen: this huge bookstore is situated in the 700 years old Dominicaner church. This setting is pretty impressive and after buying some new books you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a piece of pie and start reading right away! (more info here)
Festen: this conceptstore with coffee bar is my dream. They sell a lot of cool things from interior items to accessories and a small selection of (kids)clothes. With brands like L:A Bruket, House Doctor, Finger in the Nose, … you won’t leave empty handed! (more info here)
Le Marais Deux: Maastricht really has a thing for stores with a coffee bar inside. Le Marais Deux also has those two combined. At this store you can shop brands for men and women like Toms, Closed, New Balance, … I also loved the interior, think a lot of wood and black details. (more info here)
Stijl Maastricht: loved loved loved this store! Because I totally forgot to take a picture (distracted by all the pretty clothes), I’ll show you what I bought over there instead. Sales were still going strong in Maastricht and I found myself this pretty striped WoodWood top. Besides WoodWood they also offer brands like By Malene Birger, Hope, Royal Republic, Stine Goya, … Must. Have. It. All. (more info here)
So this was my list of hotspots for now! I really want to go back in summer ’cause I have the feeling there’s a lot more to be discovered. And stay tuned for more travel ’cause next week I’m heading to Amsterdam, yay! It’s partly for work but I will squeeze in some play too. I’m the happiest person in the world when I can discover new places. Speak soon!
